happy easter

I haven't been very good at keeping up blogging since I have been home but I will be better from now on. I broke up for Easter on Monday and since then the weather has been amazing so I have been outside at every oppurtunity. I really need a tan. The sun has gone today which is really annoying but I really want some new clothes for the hot weather. Looking on Vogue.co.uk I came across the new craze for the peplum skirt and a few caught my eye.
Love the lace from Alexander McQueen

Love the feathers from Jason Wu

Love the sparkle from Nina Ricci

pretty palermo

Ever since she worked in the DVF offices with Whitney Port in 'The City' I have loved Olivia Palermo. Admittedly she doesn't come across as the nicest person ever but her style is amazing.

Stella McCartney goes for gold

This morning Stella McCartney has revealed her Olympics 2012 Adidas GB team kit. During a show at the Tower of London McCartney showed the kit which she has been working on for two years and the collection was modelled by 30 athletes. The Union Jack flag was the inspiration for this collection and variations of it are all over the kits, T-shirts and jackets. McCartney and Adidas have been collaborating since 2004 but she argued that this was her favourite project yet with Adidas. Personally, I think she has done a good job of trying to make us British stand out for the Olympics.

take me to a festival

Today the weather is beautiful. It's making me so excited for the summer. At the moment festivals are releasing their line-ups and I can't think of anything better than sitting in the sun and listening to my favourite music. Hideout festival is a must for us this year. From the 29th June-1st July the Island of Pag in Croatia is opening its Zrce Beach to thousands with artists such as Skrillex performing. Croatia is amazing and it would be so hot over there at that time camping on the beach doesn't sound like a bad idea for once.
Another festival I love is Global Gathering at Long Marston air field near Stratford-upon-Avon in the Midlands. I'm orginally from that area so I never realised before how big it is but people from all over the globe come to our small hometown to watch hundreds of amazing acts perform. Global is on from 27th-29th July so let's hope our English weather holds up for once.

Picasso at the Tate Britain

At the weekend I went to the Tate Britain to see the Picasso & Modern British Art exhibition. The Tate Britain is near the Westminster tube station, with a nice walk along the riverside and the buildings around that area are beautiful.
Obviously I was not able to take pictures inside but there was a variety of different art forms and works from other artists such as Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and David Hockney. In one of the first rooms some theatre costumes caught my eye which were from the Ballets Russes for the production 'The Cornered Hat' - they were made with beautiful fabrics and had great detailing.
I particularly liked the oil paintings by Picasso which were made up of bright coloured dots. Up close they look like nothing but then stand back and it's a beautiful painting.
My favourite room, however, had to be the work of David Hockney. In his work he uses bright, vivid colours that immediatley catch the eye. One piece named 'Composite Polaroid' was a picture made up of different pictures to make an amazing final image. Also his oil painting named 'Harlequin' stood out to me because of the use of such bold colours.
The exhibition has been running from the 15th February and will be open up until the 15th July. I have to admit I am not really one for going to lots of art exhibitions in this country, even though I've lived in London for over 6 months now I haven't been to many, but this one is worth visiting.

DVF & Current/Elliott

I have always been a fan of Diane Von Furstenburg - I love the femininity of her clothes and her use of colours and prints. (Admittedly I first started keeping an eye out for her clothes when Whitney Eve Port started working in her offices in the programme 'The City.') Reading interviews with Diane also makes me fonder of her because she seems like such a down-to-earth woman who loves what she does. She made her name with the making of the iconic wrap dress in 1974 - "If you're trying to slip out without waking a sleeping man, zips are a nightmare."Now DVF is collaborating with denim brand Current/Elliott to make fun and colourful pieces, with bright colours, prints and classic garments. Diane's love of prints is said to have come from her time spent in Como, Italy where she worked for a factory making Gucci and Salvatore Ferrgamo scarfs. Her new collaboration sees her love for print shine through. I love the designs but I have to say I will have to pluck up a bit of courage before I could wear some of the bolder prints!

Below are some pieces from the spring/summer 2012 collection called 'DVF Hearts CURRENT/ELLIOTT.

Kate Middleton, a Princess of style

On the 29th April 2012 William and Kate will be celebrating their one year wedding anniversary as, I'm sure, the rest of the country will be. The Royal wedding will be one of those days when everyone remembers where they were, what they were wearing and who they were with as they watched Kate enter Westminster Abbey in THAT dress. As predicted Sarah Burton since then has become head of Alexander McQueen and Kate Middleton has become a style icon to rival Kate Moss and Alexa Chung.

From Alice Temperley to Alexander McQueen it is no surprise that our Princess loves designer however, she is a fan of the high street too. Zara, Topshop and Whistles have made numerous appearances at Royal events. Described as the ‘Kate Effect,’ Kate’s high street clothes become sold out in seconds. For example, one Topshop tunic she wore out and was seen in was sold out from the Topshop website 24 hours after the picture was printed. You would think Kate has a team of highly trained stylists and beauticians behind her all the time; however it is said that she has refused the help of a stylist and does her own make-up. In my eyes this makes our Princess all the more stylish.
Kate is so stylish that celebrities such as Anne Hathaway and Sarah Jessica Parker have begun to steal her style. It cannot be denied that Miss Middleton is beautiful and she has a body to die for. With an enviously slim physique she makes me never want to eat a cake ever again. She represents our country with a huge amount of beauty and grace and, more importantly, wears the most beautiful clothes. She makes us proud to be British.

pamela love vs. chanel

Creative coincidence? The cuffs in the Chanel autumn/winter 2012-13 show (left) are remarkably similar to those by upcoming designer Pamela Love
During Paris fashion week Chanel made an impact with crystal cuffs. However, as beautiful as the Chanel ones are fashion fans noticed they are very similar to the ones made by Pamela Love. Normally in the fashion world this would be taken as a norm, everyone takes inspiration from somewhere, and Love's cuffs were last year's. However Chanel took the concerns on board and have respectfully taken the crystal bracelets out of their Autumn/winter 2012 collections for sale. Isn't that a turn up for the books?

Pamela Love's bracelets will be selling for a lot less money than Chanel's so I guess really it's a win-win situation for us fashion fanatics. Before the story of Chanel's little crisis caught my eye I had never really looked at Pamela Love's designs but I have to say I'm falling for it. Chunky statement jewellery covered in crystals? What more could a girl want? For Spring/summer 2012 her collections are colourful, bold and aztec comes to mind. If you want to make a statement with your jewellery Love's pieces are definatly ones to get your hands on. But as most beautiful things are prices are in the hundreds so unless you have a wealthy man girls we better get saving.

Gudrun Sjoden comes to London

My designs are for people who love bold colours and exciting patterns and who have individual style (and you’re not afraid to show it!)” – Gudrun Sjoden
Swedish designer Gudrun Sjoden is famous for her colourful clothes and use of natural textiles; she is Sweden's vey own 'eco-warrior.' Whatever age, shape or size you are her clothes will look good on you. Until now Gudrun’s shops have been overseas in Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark and now she’s coming to London. I admit I have not bought any of her things yet, but looking at her lines for spring/summer full of flowers and feminine fabrics I think it would be good to inject a bit more colour into my wardrobe. Sjoden's collections include a lot of bold, sometimes clashing, prints and lots of layers - for some people her clothes may be too much of a statement. However, her individual pieces are beautiful paired with simpler pieces. She doesn’t just stop at clothing as home decorations are also her specialty and her linens and decorations look like must-haves for our new uni home. On the 30th March the shop will be opening on 65-67 Monmoth Street, Covent Garden.  With her floral prints and beautiful bold colours Sjoden is coming to England just in time for summer.

ELLE Style Awards 2012

At the end of last month the 15th ELLE Style Awards took place and, as always, attracted the most stylish people from far and wide. Amongst many others there were stars such as Blake Lively, Courtney Love and Cheryl Cole, who wowed on the red carpet. Not forgetting the lovely host, one of my favourites, Alexa Chung. There were many awards but to name a few: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was named a style icon, Sarah Burton was awarded International Designer of the Year and Eddie Redmayne Best Actor. With performances from Emeli Sande and Professor Green it was most defiantly a star-studded event. ‘You know how you used to use September as a mark for the year because that’s when school starts? I no use ELLE Style Awards as my year marker.’ - Alexa Chung.
Here are some of my favourite looks from the red carpet.

whiskey mist mayfair

On Saturday night we went to Whiskey Mist for a friend's birthday. One of the girls knows one of the boys on the door who very very kindly got us on the guestlist - free entry and free drinks all night. It's a members only club in Mayfair so the drinks would have been ridiculous prices, it was so nice to dress up in a lovely dress and heels though. http://www.whiskymist.com/ All kinds of rich and famous go there so it was a very good experience to see how the other half live.
